Every time we meet people whom we haven’t spoken to since we came back home, we are met wit the same question: Isn´t it hard to return to Denmark? And our reply is always that no, we actually enjoy it very much. We loved living in Utah, but being on our home turf is simply fantastic. Of course we miss the wonderful people we met in Utah, the weather (the sun!!!), our house, our cars, our life style and a lot of other things, but still….
One of the things that we enjoy the most is the fact that we are so close to Søren and Sisse - our nephew and niece. They live in Roskilde - appox. half an hour´s drive away, which is not too bad. From time to time it really fits into the Tvede family´s busy daily lives that we help to pick up the kids from school, do homework, feed the animals (rabbit Rumble and hens Bodil, Dagmar and Egon), cook dinner and eat and not least simply having a good time.
On Wednesdays, Søren plays the drums - and I've been lucky enough to go with him. It's crazy to see (and hear) how good he is. It is super fun to follow his progress.
My mom had her 75 year old birthday on February 2nd. My dad had made a huge effort for her to be celebrated in a way she really wanted. And she was not supposed to involved in the planning. That is not at all an easy task! Well, he succeeded and we were able to surprise her. Michael (brother) and I drowe early in the morning to Aalborg (4 hour´ drive) together with Søren and Sisse and met with mom and dad at a nice café. We had coffee, mom opened her presents and afterwards we drowe to a restaurant, where some of moms friends and family met us. We had a wonderful lunch and there were songs, speeches and lots of love. I am sure that mom enjoyed her very special day.
Michae and I went to Dyrehaven (the Deer Park) which is a popular outing for walks, jogging, bicycling, horse back riding etc. We came upon a lot of grazing deer on our walk towards the Hermitage Palace which was built in 1735 as a hunting place for the royalty. We crossed the golf course that is on the premises and enjoyed this unique and charming park.Since the last time I wrote on the blog, I have become one year older. It doesn´t make a lot of difference, but I have to point to the fact that it was an amazingly beautiful day. Lots of sunshine that was following too many grey and rainy days. So even if was a Monday and we both had to work, it was a very nice day.
Lone, Peter, Michael and I went for a wine tasting. It was an event that was celebrating a very exclusive food- and wine company´s 50th anniversary. More than 50 wine houses were represented - and from all over the world. We were served the best from each house - nobody was stingy with the expensive drops. As you can probably imagine, we could have ended up drunk, but since we were rather selective and actually poured out a lot, we were just a bit tipsy. Line picked us up so we didn´t have to worry about how to get back home.
In the weekend where winter became spring, we went to the summerhouse. (In Denmark spring starts on March 1st per definition). As always, we enjoyed being up there very much. Een if we witnessed the results of the heavy storms (Dagmar and Egon) in January. I previously described how the solar pannel on the roof was almost taken by the storm, but it survived. We had someone come and fix it, which was nice. However, the repair caused a hole in the roof, so Michael woke up the first night and realized that rain water was dripping on the wooden floor. NOT good! After diagnosing the damages the next day, Michael fixed it, but he also had to realize that we need to change the roof within the not too distant future
On the beach a hugs bunker from WW II had been uncovered We had no idea that it was there, since it has been covered in sand since we started coming there. The twin storms took a toll on the coast line and now even more house are in the danger zone. This garage will not last for long!Last weekend our family went to the German town Husum for a family outing. It was our birthday present to mom and dad. It was a wonderful trip. We met Friday night for dinner at the brewery in town. We had good, solid German food og wonderful beer as tasting. We each got 5 different kinds of beer in small glasses.
Saturday we went shopping and looked at the charming town. We walked on the the dikes at the outskirts of town and we even had time for a swim in the amazing pool at the hotel. A nice, gourmet dinner was served in the hotel restaurant before we went to bed.
Sunday we drove to the small neighbor town Friedrichstadt. This is a spectacular town and we walked around enjoying the beautiful place. The weather was gorgeous. The town is famous for its special houses and its canals. It is very pretty! The nice spingy weather was so inviting, that we decided to have lunch ourside. Michael thought it was a bit too cold., but everybody else were happy.
Last night Helle, Lone and I had a girls´ night out. We went to a concert with a Danish rock band, Savage Rose, that existed since forever (well, since 1967). I still remember the first time I heard them play - I guess I was less than 10 years old. Anisette, the charismatic lead singer, is 68 years old and still has the most amazing voice. The three of us stood out in more ways than one: We were the youngest there, we didn´t know the songs by heart and we were not dressed like hippies. Sounds weird, but it was a great concert and we had a good time. Before the concert started, we enjoyed a nice dinner. However next time we see each other, we will go out for only dinner, so that we have more time to fill in the blanks from last time...
