It´s Summer!!! - and before that it was Spring...

Marianne:
Well, when I started this blog post, I was sitting outside on our fabulous terrace writing, accompanied by thousands (I think) of green frogs that live in the ponds in the area. We love the terrace.

This time it´s actually difficult to start the post. It´s simply so long since the last time I wrote, and I hardly remember how to do.

I´m sure you understand that during the spring, much of our time has been spent working with our new house - trying to get it finished (finally!) To move into the house and then get things into place. The process of moving in was much more strenuous than any of us had anticipated. Both physically but also mentally. We have to realize that we bought at lot of stuff in US - and brought it home. It was so much easier in Bountiful, where we had plenty of room for those things. When we moved into a house that is approx. 1/3 in size, it is obvious that some things had to go. But we´re getting there and it´s actually very nice to know exactly what we have - and where it is. We are super excited about the neighborhood. Adjudantvaenget is a great place, which fits perfectly to us. It´s bright, quiet, close to nature and some great neighbors. There are still a lot of things missing, since this is a settler area, but nothing we can´t live with.
I´ve made some photos at dusk in and around the house. The house is quite difficult to photograph during day time, since there is a lot of light. I hope you can get an idea of how it is here.

At some point last year we visited Max (Michael´s mom´s husband) in Bryrup and he told me that he had an old rococo china cabinet in his garage, which he could not find a use for himself. I suggested that we went out to inspect it - and I totally fell in love. By our friend Soeren´s help it´s now in our house and after the inside has been re-painted, it is now serving as a drinks cabinet and also holding all our glasses. We think it gives a little extra character to the living room, which otherwise may very well be very white and sterile. Thanks a lot, Max!

At the top we put a beautiful vase, which was a housewarming gift from my parents.  Their neighbor Susanne, who is a ceramist, made it. It is raku burned - and
incredibly beautiful.

Everything doesn´t have to be about our new house. The spring equals confirmation for the young people - and we attende two this year. First it was Bjørn, who had his confirmation in Lindholm Church. Afterwards his sister Trine picked him up on a nicely decorated tandem bike - and drove him home. Everybody loved the stunt.
When the champagne for the aperitifs were to be served, Trine was leading the crowd, when she opened the first bottle - with a sable. Very classy! She did great and everybody got something for the toast. It was a great party together with wonderful friends and a the confirmand seemed to be pleased with everything. Except for the fact that he had to wear long pants. Bjørn has challenged himself to wear short for a whole year - it´s a scout´s challenge, called "the Shorty".

A couple of weeks later, it was our nephew Sørens, turn. His confirmation was in Gundsømagle Church. It was very touching to see how concentrated Søre was before the ceremony. The priest was amazing. When everybody left the church, she was singing a hymn - solo. And she did a great job. Very special!

When Søren and his class mates had had their photos taken and they left the church, they were met by Jakob, who flew over the church in his chipmunk airplane, tilting the wings as a greeting. What a nice and special gesture.

The party was held at the yacht club in Roskilde harbor - very nice venue for a beautiful party. The day before, a group of people helped each other setting tables and decorating the room. That par was also very fun - and came out with a great result.

For this special occasion, Kenneth had brewed beer himself. And he had made a lot out of it. Please pay attention to the labels. Every detail was thought through indeed. And the beer tasted wonderful. And was perfect for a party with great company - both friends and family, wonderful food - Italian buffet, icecream and hotdogs and the center of the party, Søren, enjoyed being celebrated.

Spring is also a time where the golf season is underway. Michael played most of the winter, but I have not. On May 14, we played Texas Scramble in our club. It was super fun, even though it was a fairly cold day.
In the end (of course!) with Michael was on the winning team. The team each received a fine basket from the supermarket in Lynge. Not bad at all. My team didn´t win, but we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. And that also counts! The photo shows Eric, myself, John and Gry.

In February it was my 50th birthday and we decided to  wait with the celebration till we were in our own house. That enabled us to double-celebrate: Birthday and housewarming :-) The date was set for May 21 - and it was a really nice party. We had a full house - and then some. It was meant to be a party for our friends - and we were so privileged that friends from all around the country wanted to celebrate with us. Thank you very much for that! I think it must have been a good party, for no one thought of taking pictures until very late at night, when the last group of people sat and hung out and drank slops - or whatever it was.

On the last day in May, my cousin Brita had her 70th Birthday. We were invited to celebrate her in Aalborg on 28 May. Michael and I made it into a long weekend in FriisBo - although I had to work Friday. We managed to play 18 holes after my working day was over. On Saturday it was wonderful to be with all Brita's family. It's always really nice. Sunday the Fam. Tvede (my brother Michael, sister in law Caroline and their kids, Soeren and Sisse), who stayed in Brønderslev at my parents´ and mom and dad for brunch, as mom arranged.

Afterwards we all drove to Rubjerg Knot that has been renovated over the winter.

Now you can climb the tower, which offers a spectacular view. We also went into the small city Loenstrup before we driving back to FriisBo. Here we said goodbye to our wonderful summerhouse (for now). Next time we come up there, it will be our summer vacation (for 3 weeks!). We're looking forward to it!

A couple of week ago, we had the first visitors from Utah this Summer It was Marie and Dennis, who stopped by. They were in Denmark to visit Dennis's family and revisit some of the places that made an impression on Dennis when he was on a mission in Denmark from 1952-54. It was  SO great to see them again. We had dinner on the terrace. Very nice that they got to see Denmark at its prettiest. We agreed that we will have to come visit Marie and Dennis in Utah before too long. (So, now it´s  written down...)

Peter, who turned a sharp corner (50) in March, also decided to postpone the celebration. He did so last Saturday. It was another great party that lasted until dawn. MB and I came back home around 4 am. Peter had arranged for fantastic food and accompanying wines. And he has also made a music show, where we really saw him perform on a slack rope. Very fun to see! Again there were no pictures taken, but we made this selfie before we left for the party...

Yesterday, Thursday, we had another visit from Utah. This time it was our wonderful friends and former neighbors from Bountiful, Lorraine and Kent. They had been on a cruise on the Norwegian coast and the they ended up in Copenhagen. This gave us the opportunity to spend the whole day with them.

We picked them up at the Ocean Quai, which has recently been built for these huge ships. Serenade of the Seas is 12 stories high and carried around 2500 guests.

We drove by the coast to Hillerød, where we visited Frederiksborg Castle. After that we returned to Copenhagen, where we had the more og less mandatory lunch in Nyhavn. We took a canal tour and after that we strolled down Strøget - the busiest pedestrian street in the city and then drove back home to Farum.

We went for a walk in the area before we had dinner on the terrace. It was absolutely wonderful to see Lorraine and Kent again. Impossible to understand that it´s been 2 years since we left Utah. Right now they are on the plane back home to Utah. Thanks for spending the day with us!
