In a week where Fifty Shades of Grey premiered and was one of the things that caught attention on TV, the radio and the streets together with the rough winter weather, that was freezing, windy and not really wintery anyhow, it was a shock Saturday to realize that our small, beloved country had been hit by a terror attack. First the killing of a 55-year old film instructor Finn Nørgaard and later the attack on the jewish synagogue in the center of Copenhagen. Here a young jewish man, Dan Uzan, was killed while he was volunteering as a guard outside, while a young girl was celebrating her Bar Mitzvah inside. 5 police men were injured in the two events. Things like that just don´t happen in Denmark!
Yesterday, Monday, there were memorials throughout the country and I was glued to the screen. I couldn´t handle to participate myself, but I had to see it, because it was so prestine! Beautiful music, touching speaches and thousands of people! As we do on the day where Denmark was liberated after WW2, I lit candles in the windows - I felt that I had to acknowledge this very special day. A very special feeling spread all over the country. A feeling of unity and strength. It was very special. I feel i my heart that Denmark yesterday sent the message that we will not be cowed; we will defend our right of speech and we will continue to trusting to the world around us. The pictures here speak for themselves, I think.
Though I do have to mention how proud I felt to be Danish and to have a Crown Price like Frederik, who chose to participate last night. Somebody expressed it this way on Facebook: ”This is my future king - nice and quiet, not first in line, nothing special - just showing his support of his and my country. It is a lovely picture - I am so prod of him, of me of my country and of all of us”.
Why do I share this with you on our blog? Well, simply because I could´t help it!
